FRIDAY · THE TINY ADVENTURE
There are about two weeks of apples left, and then that is it until next September.
You know where the orchard is. You have driven past the sign for years and taken a child there once, a long time ago, and it became something that belonged to families with small children.
It does not. It belongs to anyone who wants to stand in a field in October and reach up into a tree.
So this weekend, go pick something. Apples if that is what is near you, or pumpkins, or whatever the last of the season is where you live.
Go alone, or with one person who will not need managing. That distinction matters more than the company.
Here is what makes this different from the other outings I have sent you on. This one involves your hands and your whole body, and it is outdoors, and it produces something you carry home.
You spend your life doing things that leave no trace. Leaving one thing undone was about stopping. This is the opposite, and it lands in the same place: something that stays done. The meals disappear, the laundry returns, the tidying undoes itself by evening.
Filling a bag with fruit you pulled off a tree yourself is the opposite of that. It is small and physical and it stays done.

41% fewer fatal heart attacks for 9 cents
9 cents.
That's roughly what one serving costs at any grocery store in America.
A trial published in the European Heart Journal found it cut fatal heart events by 41 percent.
Forty. One. Percent.
Why hasn't your doctor mentioned it?
Same reason your doctor hasn't mentioned a lot of things…
There's no pharma rep walking into the clinic with samples of a 9-cent grocery store item.
I won't name it here. The name alone is useless. The dose, the timing, and what you pair it with are what makes the difference between 41% and zero.
It's also paired with something even bigger that I'll let you discover yourself. The kind of thing that explains why heart disease is still the #1 killer in this country after sixty years of "progress."
P.S. This 9-cent compound shows up about 14 minutes in.
Don't skip ahead… what comes before it is the reason it works
And there is the ordinary pleasure of it, which needs no justification at all. Reaching up. The weight of the bag getting heavier.
The specific sound an apple makes coming off a branch. Cold hands and the smell of the ground under the trees.
You do not need a plan for the apples. You do not have to bake anything, and the fact that you feel you should is exactly the reflex we have spent the week dismantling.
Eat them. Leave them in a bowl and look at them. That is a complete and sufficient outcome.
THIS WEEKEND
Find the nearest orchard or farm with pick-your-own and check the hours before you go, since the season is nearly finished. Take a bag. Go in the morning if you can, and bring no plan for what happens to the fruit afterward.
And tell me what you came home with. Hit reply. I read them.
THE BREADCRUMB
Monday, something about the way the year makes you take stock, and why the tally is always unfair.
If someone came to mind while you were reading this, send her these letters. The Permission Slips are yours when she stays.
