MONDAY · THE GENTLE OPENING

When did someone last know something about you that you did not have to explain?

Not a preference you announced or a need you spelled out. Something they simply knew, because they had been paying that kind of attention.

You are rarely alone. There are people around you most days, needing things, asking things, counting on you.

And still, in the middle of all that company, there is a particular loneliness you do not quite have a name for.

It is not the loneliness of an empty house. It is the stranger kind, the loneliness of being surrounded and unseen.

The people in your life know what you do for them. They know your competence, your reliability, the shape of your usefulness.

What they may not know is you. Your inner weather, the thing you have been quietly turning over, the way you actually feel about your own life.

This is not because they are cruel or careless. It is because you have made yourself easy to lean on and hard to see.

You answer "I'm fine" so smoothly that no one thinks to ask again. You keep your own interior tidy and closed, the way you keep everything else.

And so you can be needed by many and known by almost none. Loved, even, but loved for the holding rather than the being.

This week we are going to loosen that a little. Not by demanding to be understood, but by letting yourself be slightly more visible, one small truth at a time.

Carry this into your week: being needed is not the same as being known. You are allowed to want the second kind, the kind where someone sees you and not just what you carry.

THE BREADCRUMB

Tomorrow, one small way to let someone see a little more of you.

See you tomorrow.
